An insightful perspective
Preparing for IELTS is often tricky. Candidates think it’s easy and doable in the first attempt, which of course can be true in instances. However, it might not work all the time! Especially for candidates who have had only limited exposure to the English language.
The case unfolds as such; as a non-native English-speaking candidate in India, the person might have taken English as his /her medium of study during school and college days. Whereupon, he /she has experienced the language only academically to study or as basic communication in the work place, and might have had limited usage in their day-to-day life. Moreover, the person might never really would have developed any exclusive interest in reading or writing habits. If this is the case, it is plausible that the effort he /she puts in preparing for the IELTS for a period of 2 or 3 months may actually NOT help.
People need to realize that they are working on a language and not just any memory or aptitude-based test. So, when it is time for them to realize their dream of going abroad for either studies, work, or
immigration, they need to understand what they are up against. People cannot simply give themselves a couple of months’ time to score on a language test, provided they do have what it takes.
That’s why taking the help of a professional actually works. The candidates not only learn the structure and question types, but also get to practice, learn related grammar, understand and inculcate certain scoring techniques, know how to deliver based on expectations, and finally and importantly, time-management amongst others.
So, people, next time you think of attempting IELTS on your own and blowing your money on the test without coaching or help, think twice!
